Ted Kennedy - He Left His Mark!

Bettie Jean Wallace (Williams) Posted by Bettie Jean Wallace (Williams) at 04:37 PM on August 29, 2009

I just finished watching a fitting tribute and celebration of the life of Senator Edward Kennedy. Like all of the Kennedys before him and despite the tragedy and all of the controversey surrounding him in the early years - he lived a life of "service" - modeling the behaviors his family set out and surpassing his brothers by the mere fact that he was on this earth much longer and had such a desire to serve which was instilled at an early age. He along with his dear sister Eunice gave a lifetime of service to the world really - Eunice most notably for the "Special Olympics." She will be dearly missed by her family and all in the "Special Olympics" that she loved so dearly.  While Teddy had his tough times and his flaws, as do we all, and cannot escape the horrible incident of Chappaquidick, he appeared to have worked very hard to turn his life around into one of service and repentance.   I was truly refreshed and impressed by his love of life and family and others and the fact that a real "human element" was shown over the more than four decades he served in Washington.  What I was most  impressed with were all of the different laws he initated which benefits those who would not have otherwise had a voice.

The world we live in is in such dire straits that we must all find a way to help one another in these critical times. Even if it's just the sharing of information that would help catapult our young ones to "find their place" in this world or holding their hands and guiding them through this maze of life's difficulty. Many young people are on roads that lead to nowhere and just need someone in their lives who truly "care" about them to help point them in the right direction just like someone did for us when we were coming up. They say "it takes a village" and it really does to raise our children today to be the successes that we know they can be. Can we perhaps reach out more by "mentoring" to those who might not otherwise have an opportunity for such a priviledge? Could we help them go through the college application process because maybe they are too shy to say they really can't maneuver it all on their own? A little helping hand goes a very long way. What benefits and blessings could follow for all involved and subsequently our communities as well!
